• Our client’s farm specialises in slow grown Longhorn Beef. He identified that it is far more commercially viable to sell his product directly to the public.
• The challenge for our client following a grid connection offer of £162,000 with a 12-18-month timescale meant his Farm Shop project was finished before it started.
• The site itself is in a rural area with no electricity connection.
• The shop design was very energy efficient with modern freezers, fridges and LED lighting keeping the load to around 45amps peak single phase.
• The shop itself is to open Monday to Friday approximately 8-5 daily.
• Not occupied between 5pm Friday evening to 7.30am Monday morning.

• 48v, 10,000VA dual input inverter with a built-in 100amp battery charger

Alpha House has completed a large Central battery Unit (CBU) battery replacement for one of the UK’s largest metropolitan councils.

The metropolitan council were informed of the potential failure of their existing CBU battery during an Alpha House preventative maintenance visit. During all preventative maintenance visits Alpha House conducts open circuit voltage and battery impedance tests using a Hioki meter, this will enable the engineer to clarify the quality of the existing battery system.

The councils CBU battery was showing signs of premature failure due to the ambient temperature of the room being in excess of 30 degrees centigrade for extended periods of time. Alpha house recommended the replacement of the 10 x 20 x 200ah batteries along with the installation of an air conditioning unit with a suitable BTU rating for the room size in order to avoid premature failure for their new system.

They have in excess of 150 staff on site and safety is of paramount importance, if it was not for Alpha House engineering recommendations the consequences could have been disastrous”

Battery Hotline saves the day at Royal United Hospital Bath

Alpha House received an emergency call on its 24 hour battery hotline from a customer frantically trying to source 20 x 50Ah batteries for a system failure backing up an incredibly critical load. 

The UPS battery system had failed while protecting an operating theatre at Royal United Hospital Bath, a replacement battery and installation engineer were required within 12 hours in order to avoid the hospital having to cancel much needed operations the next day and until further notice.  Alpha House were called at 6.30 PM and the batteries were delivered to Adept Power Solutions within 2 hours which enabled their engineer to drive straight to the site and complete the battery installation and restore power in time for the following days operations.

Alpha House has been awarded a prestigious national NHS contract to supply mobility batteries for wheelchairs.  As the UK population and life expectancy increases, so does the need for mobility scooters.  Just five years ago there were 70,000 mobility scooters being used in the UK, the number now exceeds 300,000 according to the British Healthcare Trades Association. 

The NHS is facing ongoing budget pressures and a continued drive to save money. The Alpha House team was an integral part of the final solution: an innovative, cost-effective range of AGM and Gel mobility batteries that offer more power and more cycles at a lower DOD and at a fraction of the cost than the NHS’s current supplier.  A spokesperson for the NHS stated “If we could make these kinds of savings across our entire procurement spend we would be able to reinvest the money in even better facilities and more staff to look after our aging population.  Thank you to the team at Alpha House for their hard work on this project and for the savings they have allowed us to make”.

Alpha House has supplied a UPS and Battery Solution to protect 30 electric car charging bays at a Southern Police Authority.  The Police authority is the first non-metropolitan force to make the switch to EV’s in a bid to cut emissions and save more than £450,000 over a three year period.  The police staff will now have use of the BMW i3 fleet of vehicles capable of 120 miles from one charge and another 60 miles from a small reserve petrol tank.  It was imperative that the force has a reliable back up resource for the 30 charging points as without power the police authority could potentially immobilise its fleet of vehicles.

The UPS installed was a 200Kva modular system with 2 strings of 40 x Alpha House 100Ah batteries, with the inbuilt modularity of the UPS and battery the force could guarantee uptime whilst still having the option of carrying out maintenance without the need to totally bypass the UPS system onto raw mains.
